Our History John Furino Contracting was founded by the late John Frank Furino circa 1925. Mr. Furino’s family migrated to this county from Maddaloni, Italy which is located in the Province of Caserta in the early 1900’s and settled in Plainfield, NJ. The business primarily consisted of excavation and masonry services in the housing sector of Union County, NJ.In the 1930s, Mr. Furino was able to endure the great depression and support his growing family. The family consisted of eight children, including four boys, who would eventually evolve the business name to Furino & Sons “Brothers Four”.During the 1940’s, at the start of WWII, Mr. Furino grew the company and invested in the latest technology of the time. Advanced construction equipment of the day consisted of cable excavators and hydraulic bulldozers. He was fortunate to secure several government contracts that helped the company grow during war time. He was also awarded one of the biggest jobs in the area during the 1940’s. The project consisted of site work and excavation for the department store, Bambergers, located on Front St. in Plainfield, NJ. In addition, the post WWII housing boom was taking place and the company was poised for expansion. Mr. Furino maintained steady growth in the 1950’s, concentrating on excavation and site work in New Jersey. Unfortunately, Mr. Furino passed away in January of 1955 at the early age of 52 due to illness, leaving the business to his four sons.In 1966, the company became incorporated and the name was changed to Furino and Sons, Inc. (Brothers Four). The four sons worked together and expanded the companies’ services making the company successful for the decades to come. Furino & Sons also became signatory with the local construction unions throughout New Jersey. The third generation is currently hard at work to ensure that the company remains successful through industry standards and maintaining the motto of: Safety . Quality . Productivity .
